This major prepares students to become better public managers, administrators, government or volunteer workers and/or advocates of social change, administrative, reform, and local and national development. A coursework which includes core courses in the study of policy analysis, human resource management, organizational studies, strategic management, and leadership strategies is provided for those interested in becoming, or those already entrenched as city managers or deputy governmental leaders. Other coursework may include the studies of leadership and decision making, environmental decision making, and civic innovation strategies. Thus, graduates of this major will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a strong foundation in environmental, economic, and community development as well as with practical skills related to policy implementation and evaluation in the local government units;;
2. Demonstrate proficiency as public managers, administrators, government or volunteer workers and/or advocates of social change, administrative, reform, local and national development;
3. Apply a high level of competence in public policy, governance, and administration;
4. Demonstrate competencies in research and analytical skills in dealing with public administration demands and engagements; and
5. Practice compassion as public servant-leaders and ambassadors of the love of God in the local and national governments, non-profit organization and society as a whole.
