The College of Health Sciences aims to produce competent and compassionate health care providers, whose skills, knowledge and attitude are globally competitive. Also, it aims to produce a health care provider who could epitomize Christian values and virtues in the practice of their profession. The College offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Midwifery and Diploma in Midwifery.
The BSN is a four-year degree program consisting of general education and professional courses. Professional courses are threaded through from first year thru fourth year with emphasis on the nursing concepts with corresponding Related Learning Experiences (RLE). The BSN program provides an intensive nursing practicum that will refine further the nursing competencies to ensure achievement of the BSN program outcomes required of an entry level nurse.
The Goals and Objective
The BSM is a four-year degree program consisting of general education and professional courses which prepares Registered Midwives for higher Level midwifery competencies. The program includes Clinical Practicum in Management of OB Emergencies and High-Risk Pregnancies, Care of Infant and Children, Comprehensive Family Planning, Community Health Services Management, Community Health Care Facility Management, Midwifery Pharmacology, Research, Entrepreneurship, Administration and Supervision. The Diploma in Midwifery aims to develop the knowledge, attitude and skills of first level midwives in the care of the girlchild, the adolescent, and the adult woman prior to, during, and following pregnancy. This prepares the midwives to give the necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labor and post-partum period; manage normal deliveries on her own responsibility and care for the child.
Specifically, graduates of the 2-year program are expected to perform primary health care services within the community (promotive and preventive care); counsel and educate women, family and community regarding family planning including preparation for parenthood/parenting; detect abnormal conditions in the mother and infant; procure specialized assistance as necessary (consultation or referral).
