GloCoSe Internationalization 2.0 Bridges Malaysia and Philippines Through Culture, Service, and Global Collaboration

Cor Jesu College (CJC) warmly welcomed delegates from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the five-day GloCoSe Internationalization 2.0 Cultural Exchange Program held from April 27 to May 1, 2026. Anchored on the values of community service, environmental stewardship, and intercultural understanding, the program served as a dynamic platform for academic collaboration and cultural immersion between Malaysian and Filipino participants. Through meaningful engagements and community-centered activities, the initiative strengthened the growing international partnership between the two institutions while promoting global competence and cross-cultural appreciation among students and educators.

A total of 28 Malaysian students and lecturers participated in a series of outreach and cultural activities organized in collaboration with Cor Jesu College. The delegates conducted a donation drive in a Muslim community in Darong, Sta. Cruz, participated in mural painting activities at Igpit Elementary School, experienced pottery-making in Matti, Digos City, and immersed themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Lake Sebu. The participants also joined a tree-planting activity in Kapatagan, Digos City, reinforcing the program’s advocacy for environmental awareness and sustainable community engagement. These activities not only showcased the spirit of volunteerism and cultural exchange but also encouraged deeper understanding and cooperation among participants from different cultural backgrounds.

The success of the program was made possible through the dedicated leadership of Dr. Maria Vinice Sumaljag, Program Head of the Teacher Education Division, who actively spearheaded the planning and coordination of the event alongside the officers of GloCoSe Internationalization 2.0. The initiative also reflected the collaborative efforts of the administrators, faculty members, staff, and students of both Universiti Malaya and Cor Jesu College, demonstrating a shared commitment to fostering internationalization and meaningful educational experiences.

The program concluded with a closing ceremony and fellowship dinner that celebrated the friendship, partnership, and memorable experience formed throughout the exchange. Malaysian participants expressed their admiration for the warmth and hospitality of the Filipino community, describing Filipinos as welcoming, kind, and compassionate hosts. Reflecting on the impact of the program, Dr. Sumaljag emphasized the significance of sustaining international collaborations, stating, “May the success of this program bring a bright light for future Cultural Exchange programs.” Through GloCoSe Internationalization 2.0, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing globally minded individuals, strengthening intercultural relationships, and creating transformative learning experiences beyond the classroom.
