Cor Jesu College Represents the Philippines in China’s Seminar on Food Culture and Cuisine for Developing Countries

Cor Jesu College, Inc. proudly represented the Philippines in the Seminar on Chinese Food Culture and Cuisine for Developing Countries held from September 4 to 24, 2025, at Jiangxi Vocational College of Foreign Studies in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China.

Organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China through Jiangxi Vocational College of Foreign Studies, the 21-day seminar gathered senior executives and culinary professionals from various developing countries to promote cultural exchange, professional collaboration, and global understanding of Chinese gastronomy and hospitality.

Representing Cor Jesu College were Mrs. Earlynne Villegas, MBA and Dr. Ronald Lambayan, faculty of the College of Accounting, Business, and Entrepreneurship,  who joined participants in exploring the rich dimensions of Chinese food culture, from its historical roots to its influence on contemporary culinary practices and tourism development. The program combined lectures, workshops, and cultural immersions that deepened participants’ appreciation of China’s culinary heritage.

The seminar covered a wide range of topics including the History of Catering Development in China and Its Worldwide Influence, Overview of Chinese Food Culture, Jiangxi Cuisine and Its Inheritance, Chinese Dim Sum and Cold Dish Preparation, Tea Culture and Food Pairing, and The Wellness Wisdom in Traditional Chinese Cuisine. Participants also engaged in field visits to significant cultural and culinary landmarks in Jiangxi, Fujian, and Guangdong Provinces, such as the Wuyuan Hui Cuisine Museum, Jingdezhen Sanbao Village, and Jiangxi Riantea Co. Ltd., where they observed firsthand the integration of food culture, art, and tourism.

Beyond culinary learning, the seminar emphasized the role of food as a bridge for cultural connection and sustainable development. Through interactive discussions, participants from different nations shared their local culinary practices and hospitality innovations, fostering mutual respect and cooperation among developing countries.

In their reflection, the CJC representatives described the seminar as a “transformative experience” that broadened their perspectives on the interconnectedness of food, culture, and economic growth. They expressed commitment to share their learning with the academic community and local industries to enhance the institution’s hospitality education and promote cultural appreciation through gastronomy.
