CJC Graduate School heads Seminar-Workshop on Case Writing and Publication of Case Studies

The Graduate School Department of Cor Jesu College spearheaded a Virtual Seminar  on Case Writing and Publication of Case Studies, May 02, 2021, which was attended by some 20 faculty coming from the different programs of the Graduate School.

The webinar which aimed to develop the writing skills of the graduate school faculty to be able to make their research articles publishable in reputable journals was facilitated by Professor Erick T. Baloran, MAEd, a University Senior Researcher and currently the Research Coordinator and Associate Professor of University of Mindanao Bansalan College, Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

Graduate School Dean, Dr. Alex D. Niez expressed, “our published case studies would become learning materials for our students to analyze and practice in becoming problem solvers, decision makers, and others in their affiliated institutions.”

The Dean also shared the participants’ expertise can contribute to the making of CJC’s research center. “As a center of research, we can easily partner with foreign universities for collaborative researches and faculty and student exchanges,” Dean Niez looked forward to.

Some of the participants also expressed their insights and take-aways of the webinar.

Research and Publication Director, Dr. Randy Tudy said, “the webinar is a welcome development because for years CJC had been more focused on phenomenological design in qualitative research. Mr. Erick Baloran gave us a headstart to venture into case studies.”

Graduate School Faculty Dr. Rogelio P. Bayod cited the lecture was enlightening for the resource speaker was able to do a quick survey of the epistemological, theological, and ontological foundations of qualitative research before delving into his main topic which is the case study approach of doing qualitative research. “What impresses me about the lecture is his emphasis on his constructivist and interpretivist approach in doing case study research rather than the positivist approach,” Dr. Bayodrecalled.

Meanwhile, Dr. Analiza Cerbo, another Graduate School faculty pointed out the content of the seminar was very rich and comprehensive that can surely guide in conducting a case. She stressed, “the nature of this design was comprehensible since the speaker is a well-versed and commendable researcher in this method.” She also mentioned the use of the research examples that he himself conducted helped in understanding more the impressiveness of the case writing in qualitative research. The seminar workshop was initiated for the Graduate School faculty members to cultivate their writing skills and expose them in research publications which is one of the important requirements in any Higher Educational Institutions.
