College Student Government: Reaching out to the poor, helping the needy

The College Student Government of Cor Jesu College, led by Justine Magdadaro, extended their hands to the most remote community found in the hinterlands of Barangay Goma, Digos City. Sitio Ranao in Barangay Goma, Digos City is inaccessible by any vehicle due to its steep pathways. Student leaders of Cor Jesu College adopted the school in response to the request made by the officials of Ranao Elementary School addressed to Dr. Rogelio P. Bayod, the Director of Student Services of Cor Jesu College. Dr. Bayod sees this as an opportunity not only to help the deprived community but also to form student leaders to become compassionate servant leaders.

This is a good venue for the student leaders to exercise their being apostles of compassion and develop the spirit of volunteerism” said Dr. Bayod. As part of the initial phase of the engagement, the student leaders traversed mountains and hills under the scorching heat of the sun for four hours just to reach the place last November 17-19, 2014. They brought with them some school supplies and much needed slippers for the students of Ranao Elementary School. They also conducted  tutorials and a feeding program for the students of the remote school. To be more need-based in their approach, they also conducted profiling of the community. The data will then be used in the planning for a whole year round community engagement programs and services to this newly adopted community of the College Student Government.
