Advancing Clean Energy: Insights from an International Seminar in China

Cor Jesu College continues to expand its global engagement as representatives from the College of Engineering, Engr. Juvy Amor M. Galindo and Engr. Arnel Valdueza, participated in the Seminar for Developing Countries on Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – Clean Energy, held from March 4 to 17, 2026, in Beijing and Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China. Organized by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) under the Ministry of Commerce of China, the seminar gathered delegates from developing nations to explore strategies for advancing sustainable development through clean energy, technological innovation, and international cooperation.

Throughout the 14-day program, the participants engaged in a series of lectures, technical visits, and cultural activities that highlighted China’s approach to green and low-carbon development. Key experiences included visits to advanced nuclear power facilities, exposure to electric vehicle technologies in Shenzhen, and discussions on hydrogen energy, carbon markets, and sustainable industrial practices. These learning opportunities emphasized the importance of integrating innovation, policy, and sustainability in addressing global energy challenges. Notably, participants also translated their learnings into action by developing and submitting nine research proposals to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), focusing on renewable energy, energy storage, and sustainable mobility, which are currently under evaluation for potential funding.

The knowledge and insights gained from the seminar are expected to significantly contribute to Cor Jesu College’s instruction, research, and community development initiatives. By integrating these global perspectives into academic and extension programs, the College of Engineering further strengthens its commitment to sustainability and innovation. This international engagement underscores the institution’s role in promoting clean energy solutions and supporting the achievement of global climate and development goals.
