A research study authored by Michael H. Dejaño and Kirt Anthony R. Diaz of Cor Jesu College, Inc. has been published in Volume 4, Issue 9 (2026) of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Perspectives, an international peer-reviewed journal. The study, titled “Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) and Traditional Methods of Instruction in Enhancing Mathematical Proficiency Among Grade 7 Learners,” examines the effectiveness of different instructional approaches in improving students’ mathematical proficiency.
The study explored the use of the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) method alongside traditional methods of instruction among Grade 7 learners. According to the published research, the study involved 100 Grade 7 students from the Department of Education, Division of Davao City, who were assessed using pre-test and post-test measures.
Findings revealed that both the CPA and traditional methods improved students’ mathematical proficiency. However, the CPA method demonstrated a significantly greater improvement, particularly in areas such as conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and overall mathematical performance. The results highlight the potential of innovative and learner-centered instructional strategies in strengthening mathematics education.
