Student Services

STUDENT SERVICES CENTER

The Student Services Center is responsible for providing adequate non-academic support programs and services for students. It generally provides and facilitates extra-curricular and co-curricular activities for the welfare and total development of students. Specifically, the Student Services Center ensures the following objectives:  

  • To provide avenues for information, orientation and forum for students in collaboration with other units or departments;
  • To assist the developmental processes of the mental, emotional, physical and vocational well-being of students; 
  • To facilitate accreditation and re-accreditations of students’ associations or organizations;
  • To cater and monitor on and off-campus student-initiated activities and/or institutional activities involving students;
  • To initiate, organize and provide opportunities for trainings/seminar-workshops, sessions and formations for student leadership development;
  • To ensure and monitor the implementation of the institutional norms and formative discipline of students;
  • To organize, facilitate and hold activities, programs and performances relative to appreciation of culture and arts;
  • To organize sports tournament on-campus and supervise participation to invitational games or athletic competitions in the provincial, regional and/or national level;
  • To cater and provide services related to health and wellness for students and personnel; and
  • To provide growth and developmental sessions and formations as support initiatives to student-scholars. 

 PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

  • STUDENT WELFARE PROGRAM. This refers to the basic programs and services that are necessary to serve the well-being of students. This includes Information and Orientation Services, Guidance and Counseling, Career and Placement and Student Handbook Development
  • STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. This refers to the programs and services designed for the exploration, enhancement and development of the student’s full potential for personal development, leadership and social responsibility through various institutional and/or student-initiated activities. This includes Student Organizational Development, Student Affairs and Activities, Student Council and Government, Student Discipline
  • INSTITUTIONAL STUDENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. These are programs and services offered by the school to facilitate the delivery of essential services to the students that include Admission, Scholarship and Financial Assistance, Canteen Services, Health Services, Culture and Arts Development, and Sports Development.
  • AUXILIARY SERVICES. In order to provide support for the effort of other units/offices to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency as well as quality of services being rendered to the students as well as other stakeholders, the Student Services Center has the following Auxiliary Services:
    1. Conduct students and administrators’ forum; 
    2. Facilitate the resolution of students’ complaints and grievances against the school and the personnel;
    3. Facilitate formation session for student assistants and other non-academic scholars; 
    4. Provide I.D. Validation stickers;
    5. Facilitate issuance of Certificate of Good Moral Character;
    6. Facilitate issuance of Parents’ Consent;
    7. Cater Lost and Found Items; and
    8. Issue approval of written and on-air public announcements

OFFICES AND UNITS UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF STUDENT SERVICES CENTER

The school Guidance and Counseling program is an integral part of the educational process. It refers to the range of learning experiences which the school provides in response to the needs of the students and the available resources.

Program and Services

  1. Counseling. This program assists the individual in understanding himself/herself better.  It is one-on-one relationship with the counselor in which the counselee is helped to arrive at a certain decision. It may also be group counseling session where the members of the group, through the facilitation of the counselor, mutually help each other.  
  2. Information Services. The purpose of this program is to deepen awareness of students, teachers and parents on the educational, vocational/occupation, personal and social concerns in relation to school life.  
  3. Testing. The student’s individual strengths and weaknesses in the areas of personality, aptitudes, interests, needs and job skills are assessed through the use of standardized tests. Test results are interpreted to the students for self-awareness, growth and development. Test interpretations are also made available in groups.
  4. Career Development. It assists students in their choice of career.  This also equips them with appropriate knowledge, attitudes and these skills necessary in making progress both in their studies and occupation; facilitates them to discover their personal characteristics that make career-related difference; introduces them to many vocational opportunities; and assist them in entering, adjusting and progressing in their jobs.   
  5. Job Placement and Follow-up. A seminar intended to assist graduating students that assists in their application letter writing, to practice interviewing, tips on how to sell oneself and help them enhance their CV’s in coping with employment crisis and for better career prospects.  This service also supports students so they can prepare for job search process and connects employers and graduating students.
  6. Consultation. It is a service where counselors and school     administrators/faculty/students/parents help each together to reach a desired goal most especially towards a holistic development of student.
  7. Follow-up. It is a service where counselors call students with behavioral problems, absences, incomplete school works, failed subjects, and other problems pertaining studies for academic consultation. It also includes academic monitoring, and counselor-parent/guardian and counselor-teacher consultation to facilitate concerns affecting school performance and self-management.
  8. Referral. It is usually understood as the action taken by persons within the institution who see that a particular person needs counselor assistance (Villar, 2009). Thus, teachers, administrators, counselors, parents, and other students may refer student for counseling.
  9. Individual Inventory. It is a systematic way of the Guidance and Counseling Center to collect data about the students to identify the personalities and capacities of every client for future references.
  10. Research and Development. To obtain valid and reliable data needed for area of improvement and development, the Guidance Counselors conducts evaluation of its programs and services.

 

Other Services

 

  1. Peer Counselors Program. Training workshop for student-peer-facilitators are conducted; aimed in developing their counseling and facilitating skills to establish effective self-awareness and peer relationship.
  2. Staff Development Program. It enriches the counselors’ counseling skills and techniques and deepens their commitment and dedication to service.  

Parenting Program. It helps parents understand and accept their role as fist teacher of their children, improve their parenting skills and establish strong partnership with the school.

The Student Affairs and Activities as a component unit of the Student Services Center is responsible for the implementation of the Student Development programs, which are designed for the enhancement and deepening of social responsibility and leadership skills of the students. These programs include; Student Organizations and Activities, Leadership Training and Student Government.  This unit also implements support programs and activities for the non-academic scholars particularly the student assistants, dance and music artists and athletes. 

 

Programs and Services

 

  1. Student Organizations and Activities. This program promotes dynamic student organizations that initiate and implement student development activities. It includes the accreditation of student organizations, monitoring and evaluation of their approved activities.
  2. Leadership Training. This program offers opportunities to develop and enhance student’s leadership capabilities and effectiveness in the personal and organizational level. In CJC context, leadership is a developmental and an empowering process which focuses on the formation of “tatak Cor Jesian” such as; Christ-centered, community oriented, compassionate, disciplined, trusting & trustworthy, integrated, believes in human potentials, competent, available and service oriented.
  3. Student Government. This program refers to the recognition and supervision of the body government that conducts activities for the development of the whole studentry. 
  4. Non-Academic Scholars Support Services. This program refers to the provision of developmental, psycho-social and capacity building activities to support the development of the non-academic scholars. 

Student Discipline and Formation as a component unit of the Student Services Center is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of school policies on discipline, decorum, social norms and implementation formative intervention procedures. 

 

Programs and Services 

 

  1. Orientation on Student Discipline. This program refers to the provision of information and orientation of students on school policies related to discipline.
  2. Intervention on Student Absences. This program refers to the intervention process for referred students due to absences.    
  3. Policy Monitoring. This program refers to the regular monitoring and implementation of institutional rules and norms stipulated in the Student Handbook. 
  4. Formative Intervention. This program refers to the implementation of formative processes in disciplining students who have violated the school’s rules and policies. 

The school clinic is directly under the supervision of the Director of Students Services in providing adequate, sufficient, responsive and proactive health and wellness development programs and services to the school community. 

 

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

 

  1. Medical and Dental Services. The School Clinic provides medical and dental check-ups for pupils and students throughout the school year. It makes recommendations for treatment to pupils and students that need medical and dental care.  It issues campus leave form for students justifying their absence in their classes.  
  2. Medicine for Temporary Relief. It provides medicines for temporary relief of illness to   students and school personnel who need immediate attention while they are on campus or off campus school activities.
  3. Health Education Program and Services
  4. Water sampling 
  5. Fogging
  6. Proactive Health education
  7. Blood typing and letting 
  8. Issuance of Medical Certificate. It issues medical certificates to pupils and students for school related activities.
  9. Confinement Space. It provides a bed for students and school personnel who are sick and need rest.
  10. Vital Signs, Height and Weight Monitoring. It provides free monitoring of blood pressure, height and weight of pupils, students and school personnel.

Sports unit is responsible for the sports development program of the institution, which is designed to develop physical fitness and wellness of students as well as of employees. 

 

Programs and Activities

 

  1. Varsity Recruitment Program. This program refers to the facilitation of recruitment, screening, try-outs and evaluation of athletes. 
  2. Athletic Training Program. This program refers to facilitation of the training work-out, routines, exercises and practices to further enhance athletics skills and abilities of athletes. 
  3. Sports Association Program. This program refers to the coordination with government and non-government agencies for the promotion of national, sectoral and cultural sports activities and developments
  4. Physical Fitness and Wellness Program. This program refers to the facilitation of sport activities for the development of physical fitness and wellness of students and personnel. 

The Music Art unit is responsible for programs and activities designed to provide students with opportunities to develop and enhance talents, abilities and values for appreciation, promotion and conservation of national culture and multi-cultural heritage in terms of music. 

 

Under the Student Services Center, provision for the development of talents and appreciation of cultural arts through music is facilitated by the Music Coordinator who is also the band master of the Red Ambassadors Band. 

 

Programs and Activities 

 

  1. Band Recruitment Program. This program refers to recruitment, screening, audition and evaluation of talents or artists. 
  2. Music Workshops. This program refers to the Facilitation of workshops, skills development trainings and practices for further enhancement of musical talents and abilities.
  3. Musical Exposure Program. This program refers to musical performances for cultural arts appreciation whether on campus, during school activities and celebrations or off-campus as invitational or marketing purposes.
  4. Culture and Arts Network Program. This refers to the coordination with the City or Provincial tourism on culture and arts for partnership and for representation of the CJC’s contribution to the development of tourism programs of the City or Province.  

CANTEEN SERVICES 

Canteen Services of Cor Jesu College is managed by a designated canteen in-charge. The business aspect of the canteen in terms of rentals of concessionaires, permits, electric and water consumption and the like is under the finance office. The monitoring aspect of the canteen services in terms of sanitation of the place, foods and food servers is managed by the Student Services Center through the school clinic.
