Cor Jesians reap awards in RSPC 2015

rspcDavao City, Philippines3 Cor Jesians reaped awards during the recently concluded Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2015 held at the University of Immaculate Conception-Bajada Campus, February 5-7, 2015. These students from Cor Jesu College – Basic Education Department (B.E.D.) rose above their fellow young aspiring journalists in the region. Danelle Gen Flores placed 4th in Sports writing-English, Princess Shanen Asmod was 4th News writing-Filipino, and Edgar Maverick Ayag also grabbed 4th place in Photojournalism-Filipino. Meanwhile, CJC-BED official school publications both in elementary and high school also secured coveted places in the top 10 for the different pages. Cor Jesu Pulse, the official English high school publication, made it to the top in the regional-wide competition. It ranked 1st both in Best Editorial and Feature pages, and 9th in Science and Technology page. Overall, the Cor Jesu Pulse was ranked 3rdas Best School Paper in High School category all over the region. Pintig Kuryesunista, the official Filipino high school publication also brought honor and prestige to CJC when News page and Editorial page ranked 4thand 9th, respectively. The school publications of elementary also made it to the top 10. Younkers, the official English elementary publication grabbed 2nd place in Editorial page, 6th place in News page and 9th place in Science and Technology page. Pokus, the official Filipino elementary publication,was ranked 1st as Best in Editorial page. With these achievements, the School publications of CJC-BED both high school and elementary are now official entries of Region-XI to the upcoming National Schools Press Conference to be held inTaguig City in April 2015. “I was expecting less but fate gave the reason to exceed my expectations about our paper, hearing that the paper garnered first places in some pages was something I could be proud of as a newbie”, said by Ms. Khristine Joie Labuni, Pulse moderator in an interview. Participated by various public and private schools coming from the different divisions of the Department of Education (DepEd) of Region XI, the annual conference has this theme: “Empowering Resilient Communities through Campus Journalism”.  – Dann Ian G.
