BLIS & BPE Programs hold first Research Fora

blisbpe1Students under the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) and Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) programs  hold separate Research Fora last October 7 and October 10, 2016, respectively, at the Audio-Visual Hall 1, Cor Jesu College, Digos City, Philippines.

The papers presented in these fora were the theses of the students which were completed in the first semester of school year 2016-17.

Seven papers were presented for the First BPE Research Forum with the theme “Addressing Issues in Health and Wellness through Research”.  These were the following:  Athletic Participation and Academic Performance authored by Nym Rose Bandiala and Geylord  Tobes; HIV Knowledge and Self-Prevention authored by Frits Denis Abing, Star Jean Candia and Randolph Robles; Athletes’ Goal Setting Strategy Usage and Motivation authored by Sundae Lapena, Laiza Marie Pantilag and Lendy Mae Sucayre; Internet Addiction and Health Risk among College Students authored by Genieve Alyssa Gonazaga, Kurt Russel Pilliren and Erica Joy Sullaga;  Students’ Developmental Assets and Physical Activity Motivation authored by Manilyn Bajenting, Lord Windon Saragena and Kristine Marie Villamor; Coaching Behavior for Sports and Athletes’ Performance authored by Mc Jovan Manait, Bea Veronica Belarde, and Lhea Mae Rosima; and Sports Emotion and Athletic Participation authored by  Carther Cadorna, Laiza Mae Daligdig and Mary Beth Lagamayo.

After the presentation, Randolph Robles bagged the Best Powerpoint Presentation and Best Presenter awards.

Ms. Ma. Teresa Orig, BPE Program Head, graced the event with her presence and inspirational message highlighting on the need for research to address issues on health and wellness. BPE students, administrators and faculty were also present.

Last October 10, 2016, BLIS students also held the First BLIS Research Forum with the theme “Improving Library Services and Instruction through Research”.  Five papers were presented.

The first paper was presented by Nestle Jean Campomanes and  Junilie Kate Donayre with a title “Information Seeking Behavior and the Utilization of Information Communication Technology”.

The second was presented by Noime A. Bautista and  Praise Love D. Redoble with their research entitled “Readiness of School Libraries for the Implementation of K to 12 Program”.

The third paper entitled “Effectiveness of Library Instruction on Information Literacy of the Students, was presented by Mary Jane Pesado and Aprilie Joy Gulpe.

The fourth paper entitled “Information and Communication Technology Skills and the Digital Resources Utilization” was presented by Mara Ivy M. Pacres and Babes Ann Agraviador.

The last paper presented entitled “Students’ Preference Between Print and Non-print Resources: Basis for Collection Enhancement” was presented by Sheemna S. Saniel and Grail M. Hogan.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Lorena N. Abangan, MA, BLIS Program Head, emphasized the importance of research. She said, “In our ongoing efforts to foster a culture of research, this forum intends to present updated information to professionals and students particularly in enhancing their skills in doing research, developing new strategies in augmenting library collection and providing innovative programs and services.”

Dr. Leticia A. Cansancio, Director of Library and Information Science and BLIS professor, supported Mrs. Abangan’s views.  “Through these researches we are in a way able to help improve school services and facilities. Through these researches we are updated with the trends and issues confronting our school and the community at large”.

After the presentation, the winners for both Best Powerpoint Presentation and Best Presenters were awarded to the partnership of Mary Jane Pesadao and Aprilie Joy Gulpe with their paper entitled “Effectiveness of Library Instruction on Information Literacy of the Students”.

The two research fora were part of the school’s efforts of enhancing the culture of research.  “The activity that we are conducting is only the beginning of more research presentations,” Dr. Cansancio said during the BLIS forum.

“It is my hope that these two fora would encourage other students from different college programs to have their own forum,” said Dr. Randy A. Tudy, Director of Research and Publication Office.
